2027: NDC denies diverting aspirants’ donations

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has vehemently denied allegations that donations and levies raised from aspirants before the 2027 general elections were misappropriated. In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party dismissed reports alleging improper handling of funds and candidate selection processes as a deliberate campaign of misinformation orchestrated by disgruntled elements.

This denial comes as political parties and aspirants ramp up preparations for the upcoming elections. The NDC, positioning itself as an opposition party, explained that its lack of incumbents necessitated seeking financial support from members, stakeholders, aspirants, and supporters. The party stated that all contributions were paid directly into a designated account and managed by appropriate party organs, adhering to global best practices.

The NDC emphasized that raising funds through voluntary contributions and levies was essential for establishing a nationwide structure and fielding candidates without access to resources like incumbent administrations. The party's decision to solicit donations was deemed strategic, given the national popularity of its growing opposition.

They challenged anyone alleging financial impropriety to provide evidence, warning of potential legal action if found culpable. The NDC also clarified that candidate selection was not based on selling party tickets, with presidential and vice-presidential positions offered free of charge.
