15 workers rescued, 12 hospitalised after iron slab collapses at construction site in Gandhinagar

Fifteen workers were rescued and twelve more were hospitalized after a metal slab collapsed at a construction site in Gandhinagar on Wednesday night, according to Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. The rescue operation continued throughout the night to ensure no individuals were left trapped under the debris. Twelve of the rescued workers were admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, with the remaining three discharged after suffering only minor injuries.

All twelve individuals currently hospitalized are reported to be safe and in stable condition, neither being in critical condition, according to the hospital superintendent. The accident occurred around 9 p.m. at the construction site in the Kudasan area when a large metal slab fell during ongoing construction work. Firefighters, police, and local administration personnel were immediately deployed to the site to carry out rescue operations as workers claimed several individuals might have been trapped in the rubble.

Over four fire brigades responded to the incident, utilizing a large crane and electric cutters to remove the metal debris and check for any trapped workers. Ambulances were deployed to provide immediate medical assistance to those rescued. So far, five persons have been shifted to the hospital for treatment, with doctors assessing whether surgery is necessary for those with back and leg fractures. The exact number of workers trapped under the collapsed structure remains unclear.
