Ceiling slab of under-construction building collapses after crane-hit in Gandhinagar; at least a dozen feared trapped

In Gandhinagar, Gujarat's capital, a construction site's ceiling slab unexpectedly collapsed around 9 pm on Wednesday, leaving at least a dozen workers trapped beneath the debris. The tragic incident is believed to have been caused by a crane striking a section of the ceiling while the building was still under construction, according to sources.

Rescue efforts were immediately launched, with several workers successfully pulled from the rubble. Five of the injured were rushed to the GMERS Civil Hospital, located in Gandhinagar. The GVK-EMRI 108 emergency ambulance service dispatched six vehicles to aid in the transportation of the injured individuals.

Gandhinagar Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who was in the city to attend the monsoon session of the Assembly, visited the scene. Health Minister Praful Patel informed that all available medical professionals were being called to the hospital to provide necessary treatment. Dr. Meeta Parikh, the Medical Superintendent of GMERS Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, reported that two injured workers suffered spine injuries, while the remaining patients were in stable condition. Notably, none of the victims were reported to be in critical condition.
