UNIZIK lecturers begin indefinite strike over incomplete August salary

On Monday, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Nigeria, initiated an indefinite strike. This action was taken due to the university's failure to fully pay the August 2026 salaries to its lecturers. The union's Chairperson, Innocent Nnubia, and Secretary, Osita Nnajiofor, released a joint press statement detailing the reason for the strike.

The statement mentioned that ASUU had decided to withdraw its services in accordance with the ASUU National Executive Council's resolution concerning non-payment of salaries. The union urged the university and President Bola Tinubu to address the issue promptly by ensuring the full payment of the August 2026 salaries and preventing any recurrence of such situations.

The statement emphasized that the strike would continue until the complete payment of the August 2026 salaries was made to all members. However, the university's Director of Information and Public Relations, Aloysius Attah, declined to comment on the matter.
