UNIZIK lecturers begin indefinite strike over incomplete August salary

The Academic Staff Union of Universities at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has initiated an indefinite strike due to the incomplete payment of the August 2026 salaries to its members. The Academic Staff Union of Universities-UNIZIK branch, in a joint press statement by their Chairperson, Innocent Nnubia, and Secretary, Osita Nnajiofor, declared their withdrawal of services following the non-payment.

This action aligns with the standing Resolution of ASUU National Executive Council, which empowers branches to cease services when salaries remain unpaid after the third day of the month following the due date. The statement emphasizes that it is now September 7, 2026, and the university has yet to settle the full August 2026 salaries.

The union urges the university authorities and President Bola Tinubu to promptly settle the August 2026 salaries for all members and prevent such occurrences in the future.
