Two denied bail over alleged lynching of young man at Daboya

The Buipe District Magistrate Court has refused bail to two individuals accused of participating in the alleged lynching of a young man at Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region, according to prosecutors. Adjei Abdulai, a final-year student at the Savannah College of Education, and 22-year-old Issah Mahama were not granted bail and were placed in police custody following their lawyer's unsuccessful bail application request.

The court, led by Livingston Lartey Yao Ameevor, ordered the defendants to return to court on September 21, 2026. The two are charged with involvement in the death of Yibonwura, who prosecutors claim was attacked following allegations that he had stolen shea nuts. The accused displayed emotional distress in court as their bail application was denied.

Inspector Mumuni Muniru informed the court that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the police are actively seeking a third suspect who is currently at large in connection with the young man's death. The court's decision means Abdulai and Mahama will continue to remain in police custody while the authorities conduct further inquiries into the alleged lynching.
