Samsung SDS to expand partnerships with OpenAI, Anthropic to drive AI transformation

SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- The Samsung Group's IT services wing, Samsung SDS, announced on Tuesday plans to expand its collaboration with leading global AI firms such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The goal of this strategic move is to drive innovation through AI transformation, as highlighted during the company's annual summit. At the event, Samsung SDS unveiled its vision for accelerating AI transformation, which it has named AX.

The company aims to implement AX across all business processes and work procedures. Samsung SDS stated it would be the first South Korean firm to join OpenAI's Daybreak Partner Program, an initiative focused on cybersecurity and integrating advanced AI models into software security workflows from the outset. Additionally, Samsung SDS established a strategic partnership with Anthropic PBC, a San Francisco-based company, in July, making it the first South Korean entity to do so.

Both partnerships will focus on identifying new AX business opportunities by leveraging their respective technological expertise and business knowledge. According to Samsung SDS CEO Lee Joon-hee, AX extends beyond mere efficiency improvements, aiming to fundamentally redesign the way businesses operate. The company employs a "client zero" strategy, first applying and validating AX solutions within its own operations before scaling them up to customers.

Samsung SDS is currently establishing AX capabilities in seven key internal processes, including development, procurement, and quality management, before applying the outcomes to customer operations.
