Samsung partners with French AI startup to enhance chip operations

Samsung Electronics has announced a partnership with French AI startup Mistral AI to bolster its semiconductor operations. This collaboration was disclosed during a summit between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Tuesday. Samsung, the world's leading memory chip manufacturer, stated in a press release that they will incorporate Mistral AI's services and solutions into their semiconductor processes to create bespoke AI models for on-premise deployment.

Mistral AI, established in 2023 by former personnel from Google's DeepMind and Meta, has created large language models, among which is the Mistral Large model. As the intricacies of semiconductor production continue to escalate, Samsung anticipates that Mistral AI's technology will contribute to enhancing the design and manufacturing of semiconductors.

Jun Young-hyun, vice chairman and head of Samsung's semiconductor division, emphasized that as AI chip design and manufacturing become increasingly complex, ongoing innovation in semiconductor technologies is imperative.

Samsung's strategic objective with this partnership appears to be to leverage Mistral AI's advanced capabilities to address the growing demands of semiconductor production, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of technological advancements in the industry.
