Dolly Parton’s sister pleads for end to ‘AI garbage’ posts after singer’s death

Stella Parton, sister of country music legend Dolly Parton, has requested fans cease posting "fake AI garbage" following her sibling's passing. The tributes to the late artist have flooded social media platforms since Dolly Parton's death on August 25 at 80 years old. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Stella praised those who offered "genuine support" to her and her family, but expressed frustration over the "tremendous amount of AI and endless garbage being posted."

She implored the public to demonstrate "more compassion" in their responses to the country star's death, following similar requests made by families of other deceased celebrities. Robin Williams' daughter Robin Williams and Zelda Williams, daughter of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., had previously implored fans to stop sharing AI-generated content.

Robert Redford's daughter Amy also expressed her concerns over AI content being created to pay tribute to the late actor in September of the previous year. Dolly Parton herself addressed the issue in a recent interview, expressing concern that AI could replace humans, which she referred to as "the mark of the beast". Despite her apprehensions, she advocated for tolerance and mutual respect, encouraging people to look to her sister's life as an example.

Despite the tide of AI and "garbage" posts, one AI-generated tribute by Miley Cyrus, posted on YouTube, has garnered over 1.5 million views, though it has been labeled as AI-generated.
