Russia pounds Kyiv one day after visit by Witkoff and Kushner

Kyiv, Ukraine was hit by a missile and drone attack on Tuesday morning, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to ten others. The assault, which involved both ballistic and cruise missiles as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, caused significant damage to residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure in the capital, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The attack came just one day after US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Kyiv and Moscow in an attempt to restart stalled peace talks. The strikes also targeted civilian facilities in the Odesa and Kharkiv regions, and damaged a passenger train between Kyiv and Sumy, though all 90 passengers and crew were able to evacuate.

In response to the scale of the Russian attack, military aircraft were deployed by neighboring Poland to protect its airspace.
