Police to record statements from six Gunung Gerah hikers after rescue

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin announced that six hikers from the Trans Gerah Expedition at Gunung Gerah, Kelantan, will have their statements recorded by the police after being found safe yesterday. The six individuals, who included a couple and their two children, were reported missing during the hiking trip and were located at Pos Kemar.

Upon arrival at the Gerik District Police Headquarters (IPD), the hikers will complete documentation before being allowed to return home. They are reported to be in good health. The couple, Wan Ahmad Aslam Wan Zairudin and Siti Zulaiha Norizan, along with their children, Diya Raisha and Ahmad Raef, were accompanied by mountain guides Shafiee Sidek and Hazman Mamat.

All four of them possess valid permits, with the permit containing details of their family members. The couple's decision to bring their children on the hiking trip was deemed appropriate by police, as the permits encompassed their family members. The search and rescue team, including the victims, departed Pos Kemar at 8.30am today and reached the Trojan Jetty, Tasik Banding, by 10.20am before proceeding to the Gerik IPD.

The six hikers embarked on their expedition on August 29 and were expected to exit the forest on September 3. Their family members reported them missing on Sunday following their failure to return as planned.
