Police to record statements from six Gunung Gerah hikers after rescue

BAGAN SERAI, Sept 8 — Police are set to collect statements from six individuals who were part of the Trans Gerah Expedition at Gunung Gerah in Kelantan, after they were found safe following a rescue operation. Perak's top police officer, Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin, revealed that these six hikers will be brought to the Gerik District Police Headquarters to document their accounts.

Once the documentation is finished, they will be free to return to their homes, where they are expected to be in good health. Speaking at a press conference at the Kerian IPD, Mohd Alwi clarified that the couple and their two children did not break any laws by bringing the children along on the hiking trip, as their permit included details of the entire family.

The five members of the expedition - Wan Ahmad Aslam Wan Zairudin, Siti Zulaiha Norizan, Diya Raisha, Ahmad Raef, mountain guides Shafiee Sidek, and Hazman Mamat - were discovered safe yesterday and subsequently taken to the Pos Kemar Health Clinic for medical check-ups. The rescue and search team left Pos Kemar at 8:30am, reaching Trojan Jetty at 10:20am before proceeding to the Gerik IPD.

The group had embarked on their hike on August 29 and were expected to exit the forest on September 3. The family reported them missing on Sunday after they failed to return on schedule.
