Police to record statements from six Gunung Gerah hikers

BAGAN SERAI: The Perak police will document accounts from six hikers participating in the Trans Gerah Expedition in Gunung Gerah, Kelantan, who were discovered unharmed on August 30 after being declared missing since August 29. Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin announced that the group will be escorted to the Gerik district police station for the recording of their statements following their retrieval from Pos Kemar.

They will subsequently be permitted to depart for their homes once the documentation procedure is concluded. All six individuals are reported to be in satisfactory health, stated Mohd Alwi during a press briefing at the Kerian police headquarters today. When queried about the couple's decision to bring their two children on the trek, Mohd Alwi affirmed that all four participants possessed valid permits, with no complications arising as the permit encompassed information regarding their family members.

The six individuals, comprising Wan Ahmad Aslam Wan Zairudin, 39, his wife Siti Zulaiha Norizan, 39, their offspring Diya Raisha, 13, and Ahmad Raef, 9, along with guides Shafiee Sidek, 49, and Hazman Mamat, 43, were found safe overnight prior to receiving medical examinations at the Pos Kemar clinic. The Search and Rescue (SAR) team and the victims departed Pos Kemar at 8:30 AM today, reaching the Trojan Jetty in Tasik Banding at 10:20 AM before proceeding to the Gerik police headquarters.

The hiking expedition commenced on August 29 and was scheduled to conclude on September 3. A police report was filed by the family members on Sunday following their failure to return as per the planned schedule.
