Police open probe into Abdul Hadi’s claim US offered to help topple BN govt in 2014

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have initiated an investigation into PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's claim that the United States (US) offered assistance to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in 2014, according to Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar.

Kumar stated that the case is being scrutinized under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for offenses related to statements conducive to public mischief, as well as under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the misuse of network facilities or services. To date, the PDRM has received 12 police reports and has recorded statements from 12 witnesses. Abdul Hadi's statement will also be taken to finalize the investigation, he said in a statement yesterday.

Kumar cautioned the public against making any prejudiced assumptions that could disrupt the ongoing investigation. He urged them to use social media platforms responsibly and refrain from statements that might threaten public order and safety.

Earlier, PAS leader Abdul Hadi Awang claimed that several PAS leaders were invited to a meeting with the US Embassy when then-US President Barack Obama visited Malaysia in 2014. According to the US Embassy, they never attempted to influence Malaysia's political leadership and described any such allegations as false.
