NPP Chairmanship race: Wontumi’s campaign team throws support behind John Boadu

The former Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, has endorsed John Boadu as the candidate for the National Chairmanship. This shift signifies the end of Wontumi's independent bid and sees his campaign structures aligning behind Boadu. The decision was unveiled at a press conference on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, by Dennis Okyere Danso, the Administrator of the Wontumi Campaign Team.

Danso revealed that the move came after discussions with party grassroots, elders, and other stakeholders, and was influenced by a visit to Wontumi on September 4. Wontumi’s campaign team sees the union as a way to merge Boadu's experience in managing party affairs with Wontumi’s grassroots mobilization network. The alliance aims to rebuild unity within the NPP in preparation for the 2028 general elections, emphasizing that it transcends individual political affiliations.

Danso urged Wontumi campaign members across all regions to support Boadu's candidacy, viewing it as a collective responsibility. The partnership is expected to bridge grassroots mobilization with party management, reinforcing the NPP’s organizational foundation. Danso also called for a peaceful internal contest, urging all candidates and supporters to avoid insults, intimidation, and personal attacks, stating that the internal elections should not create lasting divisions within the party.

The alliance's ultimate goal is to consolidate the NPP's support base, restore member confidence, and position the party to win power in 2028 under Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's leadership.
