John Boadu best positioned to return NPP to power in 2028 – Wontumi campaign

The campaign team representing Chairman Wontumi has voiced its backing for John Boadu, asserting he is the most suitable candidate to rejuvenate the NPP and secure the presidency in 2028. In a statement on September 8th, 2026, Denise Okyere Danso, the administrator of the Wontumi Campaign Team, announced their decision to direct their grassroots network, organizational frameworks, and political influence towards Mr. Boadu's pursuit of the NPP's National Chairman position.

The campaign's leadership had recently visited Mr. Boadu at his prison facility in Nsawam, where he is serving a twenty-year sentence for illegal mining, before making their choice. They emphasized that this endorsement was a strategic decision aimed at advancing the NPP's collective interest and future, not a result of political pressure.

The team's extensive grassroots network, combined with Mr. Boadu's institutional experience and understanding of the party's structures, would enable them to build the political machinery needed to revive the NPP. Mr. Danso explained that when combined, grassroots strength and institutional experience create a formidable force for victory.

He further stated that John Boadu is the best-positioned candidate among those running to lead the party to victory and help prepare Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the presidency in 2028. The campaign maintained that the NPP's primary goal should be to regain power in 2028, emphasizing the importance of unity, discipline, effective organization, and a clear sense of purpose.

They warned that factionalism and internal divisions could endanger their efforts to rebuild and prepare the party for the next general election. The campaign urged their regional and constituency structures, electoral area coordinators, polling station executives, communicators, volunteers, and supporters to rally behind Mr. Boadu.

They asked those who had previously supported Wontumi to now support Boadu, and those who had mobilized for Wontumi to now mobilize for Boadu. Despite their support for Boadu, the campaign made it clear that this endorsement should not be seen as an attack on other candidates. They pledged to campaign without resorting to insults, intimidation, or unnecessary attacks, noting that unity would be essential after the internal contest to pursue their broader political ambitions.

The campaign cautioned against internal democracy turning into internal warfare and called on all aspirants and their supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that would strengthen the NPP and position it for the 2028 elections.
