Modifikasi kereta hingga RM150,000, JPJ akan perhebat Ops Ekstrem

Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) in Malaysia has been monitoring a number of vehicle owners willing to spend up to RM150,000 to modify their cars in extreme ways, including installing air suspension and sound dampening systems. Deputy Chief, Aedy Fadly Ramli, mentioned that the issue arose during an 'Extreme Ops' conducted around Kuala Lumpur on September 6, involving 78 people, including JPJ officers from Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

The operation was prompted by public complaints and information about vehicles being modified in extreme ways, causing noise disturbances and compromising public safety. According to the information gathered, some owners spent as much as RM150,000 to alter their vehicles. These modifications included placing the vehicle so low that it could scrape the road, using unapproved air suspension systems, and more.

During the operation, 97 vehicles were penalized for various infractions, including incorrect registration numbers, defective exosuits, expired lifespan certificates, no insurance coverage, faulty mirrors, and altered shapes. As a result, 485 notices were issued and 37 vehicles impounded for further action in line with the law. Any vehicle modification that is not approved must receive JPJ approval, and impounded vehicles will not be released until they are returned to their original state.

All vehicle modifications need to be approved by JPJ, and vehicles seized for illegal modifications will not be released until they are returned to their original state. Vehicles that engage in unauthorized modifications will be detained and appropriate action will be taken until they are returned to their original state. Furthermore, the Extreme Ops will be expanded nationwide starting this week to monitor more owners who have made unauthorized modifications to their vehicles.

JPJ will cooperate with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN), Customs, and the Malaysia Inspection Agency (Kastam) to investigate the use of unauthorized modification products.
