Monthly assistance for ex-servicemen, widows to be raised to ₹6,000, says Minister

The Minister for Non-Resident Tamil Welfare, K. Thennarasu, recently announced an increase in monthly assistance for ex-servicemen and their widows, raising it from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000. This announcement was made in the Assembly during a discussion on the Public Department. Thennarasu also revealed plans to introduce an AI-enabled chatbot and an interactive voice bot on the Mudhalvarin Mugavari website, which would cost ₹2.18 crore to implement.

Additionally, digital kiosks would be installed at key government offices, such as the Secretariat and Collectorates, to enhance public access to government services.

Furthermore, Thennarasu announced a boost in cash assistance for Sri Lankan Tamils residing in camps. The head of the family would receive ₹1,800 per month, family members above 12 years of age would get ₹1,200, and those under 12 years would be provided with ₹600. The educational assistance for children of Sri Lankan Tamils in camps would also see a ₹2,000 increase.

To honor non-resident Tamils who have significantly contributed to the welfare of Tamils abroad, the State government plans to institute the 'Vettri Tamilar Award'.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Finance, N. Marie Wilson, addressed announcements for the Planning and Development Department. She announced the establishment of a Health Research Centre within the State Planning Commission, which would provide policy advice and guidance to the government. Additionally, an Evidence-based Government Unit, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency, would be set up to help the government make informed decisions based on evidence.
