Malaysia target six golds, 33 medals at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — Malaysia's national team is aiming for six gold, seven silver, and 20 bronze medals, or a total of 33 medals, at the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. Chef de Mission Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan stated that the target is achievable based on the athletes' current form, recent achievements, and the competition level at the continental level.

He emphasized that the Asian Games are more challenging than the SEA Games, and the team hopes for a bonus beyond the gold-medal target. Tan Cheong Min, the national wushu queen, was announced as the Jalur Gemilang flag-bearer for the Asian Games, and Muhammad Nazmi Nasri will represent Malaysia for the Asian Para Games. The Malaysian contingent consists of 352 athletes and 185 officials, participating in 30 of the 43 sports at the Games.

Thirteen sports, including track cycling, badminton, archery, diving, squash, sepak takraw, hockey, athletics, sailing, karate, wushu, esports, and shooting, have been identified as having medal potential. NSC director-general Jefri Ngadirin revealed that Datuk Azizulhasni Awang, a track cycling star, will also compete at the Games to support Malaysia's medal goal.
