Japan to Allow N. Korean Athletes to Enter for Asian Games

KUALA LUMPUR - Wushu world champion Tan Cheong Min has been named as the national contingent flagbearer for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, from September 19th to October 4th. At 28 years old, Cheong Min has already claimed multiple world titles, making her selection a significant milestone in her career. In a statement, she expressed her gratitude to the National Sports Council (NSC) while acknowledging that other athletes, including fellow world champions, could have been chosen for the role.

Cheong Min is proud and honored to have been selected as the flagbearer, as this is her first time receiving such an honor. She aims to use this opportunity as motivation to perform well at the Games and aims to secure a podium position in Japan. Cheong Min has previously won a silver medal in the women's nanquan-nandao category at the Hangzhou Games in 2023, held a year later due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Wushu Federation of Malaysia and the NSC have provided strong support to the wushu athletes, who underwent training in China in two phases. The athlete affirms that the entire team is well-prepared for the Asian Games. As a senior athlete, Cheong Min's goal is to finish on the podium once again and improve her performance from game to game, fighting for the podium.

She is cautious about her old injuries, which affect her shoulder, knee, and ankle, but takes necessary precautions to ensure she remains fit and healthy.
