Lagos arraigns 100 suspects over VI, Lekki disturbances

The Lagos State Government has arraigned over 100 suspects before the Special Offences Mobile Court in Bolade, Oshodi, on charges such as breach of public peace and unlawful conversion of government property to personal use. These individuals were arrested on Friday, September 4, 2026, between 2 am and 4 am, across the Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ajah areas. Prosecution led by Oluwabusola Omotunde stated that the defendants had been apprehended during raids on Friday, September 4, 2026.

During the arraignment, some of the defendants admitted guilt to Counts I and II, while others maintained their innocence. Chief Magistrate F.J. Adefioye underscored the importance of deterrence while upholding due process. The magistrate sentenced those who pleaded guilty to either one or two months of community service or imprisonment, with the sentences to run consecutively. Defendants pleading not guilty were remanded and granted bail with two sureties each.

Olufemi Adekunle, Coordinator of the Mobile Court, affirmed the government's commitment to maintaining law and order while protecting legitimate businesses and residents within the state. He noted that similar Mobile Court sittings would continue across the state to ensure prompt prosecution of offenders and safe public spaces. The ongoing efforts of the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court include handling public order, environmental, traffic, and other offenses under its jurisdiction.
