How BSc, HND, ND holders can apply for FG’s six-month teacher certification

The Federal Government's Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (ATPP) is offering a six-month certification programme for Nigerians who possess academic qualifications but lack formal teaching credentials. The ATPP is aimed at non-professional teachers who already hold bachelor's degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HNDs), or National Diplomas (NDs) from non-education fields but need professional training to become certified teachers.

The ATPP offers two pathways: the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) for holders of bachelor's degrees or HNDs, and the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) for ND or OND holders. Both programmes require at least 24 months of classroom teaching experience.

Applicants must submit a valid National Identification Number, their academic degree or diploma, and proof of teaching. The ATPP's curriculum covers professional knowledge, practice, values, ethics, engagement, and development. It also includes subjects such as educational psychology, curriculum and pedagogy, inclusive education, safeguarding, assessment, digital learning, and subject specialization.

Upon successful completion of the programme, candidates will need to pass the TRCN Professional Qualifying Examination and be eligible for registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. The ATPP is currently accepting applications for Cohort 1, with the deadline set for September 18, 2026. The programme fee is ₦200,000 per teacher.
