Is Champions League three-peat really possible for PSG?

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have set their sights on a rare Champions League treble, following their victories in the past two years. However, UEFA's new format has made such a feat increasingly difficult. PSG captain Marquinhos acknowledged the challenge, noting the numerous obstacles they face. The club, owned by Qatar, has seen remarkable success under former Barcelona and Spain coach Luis Enrique, who took over in 2023.

After years of disappointment in European competitions, PSG reached the semi-finals in their first season and then won their first Champions League title in 2025, defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. They also secured their first Champions League retention by beating Premier League champions Arsenal on penalties in Budapest. However, a three-peat would be unprecedented.

While Real Madrid, Ajax, Bayern Munich, and Alfredo Di Stefano's Madrid achieved the feat in the past, today's European competition demands are greater than ever. The new Champions League format requires a total of 17 games to win the trophy in each campaign. Despite their achievements, PSG's grueling schedule, including 121 competitive matches over two seasons, may have left them lacking energy at the start of this campaign.

Nonetheless, their dominance in Ligue 1 remains, and they are favored to win again. PSG will face tough competition in their European campaign, starting with Slovan Bratislava and later facing Manchester City and Barcelona. New signings Goncalo Ramos, Lee Kang-in, Ibrahim Mbaye, Maghnes Akliouche, and Ferran Torres, including Spain's final match-winner in North America, are expected to bolster the team.

Under Luis Enrique, PSG appears more motivated than ever, with the coach signing a new contract until 2030.
