Is Champions League three-peat really possible for PSG?

Champions League success is proving elusive for Paris Saint-Germain in their quest for a three-peat, despite securing back-to-back titles in recent years. Captain Marquinhos acknowledges the difficulty of achieving the treble, stating that obstacles are inevitable. Under Luis Enrique's guidance since 2023, PSG has overcome years of European disappointment, reaching the semi-finals in his first season, then winning the Champions League in 2025 and the Premier League final against Arsenal on penalties.

However, a three-peat would be unprecedented, as only legendary teams like Real Madrid, Ajax, Bayern Munich, and Di Stefano's Madrid have managed it.

The demands of the modern Champions League have intensified, with PSG playing a total of 17 games to secure the trophy in each of the last two campaigns. This heavy fixture list, combined with their squad's involvement in multiple tournaments, may prove to be their greatest challenge. PSG has looked fatigued at the beginning of this campaign, missing a significant amount of rest time due to their hectic schedule.

Nonetheless, the club remains favourites to win Ligue 1, even if they opt to rest key players for Champions League matches.

Despite selling several star players, including Bradley Barcola to Liverpool, PSG has bolstered its ranks with new signings like Ferran Torres, who praised his former teammate Luis Enrique, now the coach who has signed a new contract until 2030. Enrique's renewed hunger and PSG's attacking prowess, led by Dembele and Kvaratskhelia, make them a formidable force in European football.

However, the challenge of maintaining form over a long season remains a significant hurdle for the Paris side in their pursuit of a record-breaking treble.
