U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to ban the sale of aircraft from Canadian manufacturer Bombardier unless the company begins production in the United States. Bombardier has stated that many components for its planes, including wings, are already produced in the U.S., and that its supply chain heavily relies on U.S. companies.

Following the collapse of Canada-U.S. trade talks on August 21, Trump and his administration have issued a series of tariffs, threats, and personal attacks, portraying Canada as weak and dependent. Trump tweeted on Monday, "NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren’t good enough! If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a ‘piggybank.’”

Bombardier responded in a statement, asserting that the American aerospace industry is a "clear winner on trade and exports." The company noted that it employs tens of thousands of people directly and through its supply chain, with about 2,800 U.S. companies located in 47 states contributing to its operations. Wings for its business jets are manufactured in Texas, while flight control components are produced near Los Angeles.

Bombardier expressed its gratitude for its partnership with American companies and its U.S. employees, stating that it plans to continue investing in its workforce, customers, and communities across the country. The company has a significant presence in Kansas, a state that Trump won by a margin of 16 percentage points in the 2024 election. U.S. Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas commented on social media that Bombardier supports a local workforce of more than 1,000 Kansans.
