Dolly Parton’s sister pleads for end to ‘AI garbage’ posts after singer’s death

Dolly Parton's sister, Stella Parton, has called for an end to the "fake AI garbage" posts that have emerged following the country legend's death on August 25. The tributes, which have appeared on social media platforms such as Instagram and X, have included AI-generated songs, images, and videos. Stella praised those who offered "genuine support" for her sister and her family, but expressed concern over the "tremendous amount of AI and endless garbage" being posted.

She urged fans to show more "compassion" in their responses to Parton's death, echoing similar pleas from other families of late celebrities who have been targeted by AI tributes. In October, Robin Williams' daughter, Zelda Williams, had asked fans to stop sharing AI-generated videos of her father. Later, Zelda King, daughter of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., had also called for people to "please stop" posting such content.

Robert Redford's daughter, Amy Redford, had also spoken out about AI tributes after his death in September. In a recent Instagram post, Dolly Parton expressed her own concerns about the impact of AI on artists, saying that while she sees potential in the technology for fields like science and medicine, she fears that "replacing voices and writings, and not replacing a human being that belongs to God" could lead to a "mark of the beast".
