Coco Gauff beats Iva Jovic to reach US Open quarter-finals

Coco Gauff secured her place in the US Open quarter-finals by defeating 18-year-old Iva Jovic with a score of 6-1, 6-4. The American, aiming for her second title in New York, dominated the match on a warm evening. Jovic managed to claim a break in the opening game due to Gauff's double fault. However, Gauff quickly asserted her control, winning the first set 6-1.

In the second set, Gauff managed to break Jovic once more, eventually clinching the match after three consecutive breaks in the third set. Gauff, who has never lost a set so far in the tournament, praised the teenager, stating that Iva is an incredible player with exceptional talent. Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka disclosed she is dealing with an Achilles injury after being defeated by Elena Rybakina 6-1, 6-4.

The Japanese player revealed that she will likely undergo an MRI to understand the extent of her injury. In another match, Qinwen Zheng, a qualifier, pulled off an incredible comeback to defeat former champion Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-3.
