Akwaboa chiefs decry health and economic impact of deplorable roads in the area

Traditional leaders from the Akwaboa community in the Ashanti Region have expressed frustration over the poor state of roads in their area, which they blame on governmental neglect. These chiefs argue that their community, one of the oldest in Asanteman, has been subjected to insults and ridicule due to the poor condition of the main road that connects them to major highways.

Despite multiple attempts to engage local authorities and the government, including the District Assembly, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, and the Ministry of Roads and Highways, no progress has been made. The sub-chiefs of Akwaboa, including Nana Osei Kwadwo, Nana Kwame Bonsu, and Nana Bremchamfour Boateng, have expressed disappointment and called on the government to prioritize the reconstruction of the road.

They argue that fixing the road would not only alleviate congestion on surrounding highways but also alleviate respiratory issues caused by excessive dust. The leaders also highlighted the health hazards faced by residents, particularly during the rainy season when the road becomes impassable, disrupting travel and commerce. The economic and social implications of the neglected road are significant, with residents relying on it for daily activities such as farming, trade, and education.

Traditional authorities have urged the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly, and the Ashanti Regional Minister to expedite the road repair project to prevent further deterioration and alleviate the suffering of the community. They warn that continued neglect could lead to increased youth unrest and strain social cohesion in the area.
