Why l abandoned Atiku’s ADC for Makinde’s APM – Lawal Daura

Former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura, has disclosed his reasons for leaving the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for the All Progressives Movement, APM. In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Daura attributed his decision primarily to a perceived lack of strong leadership within the ADC.

He explained that without effective leadership, discipline within an organization tends to suffer, making it harder to achieve its goals. "Basically, two things changed. The first was my discovery that the choice of ADC was somehow not a very correct one, and the reason being lack of leadership," said Daura. The security situation in Katsina State prompted Daura's eventual decision to contest the governorship election.

He revealed that the request to run came not from personal ambition but from the urging of elders and other stakeholders in the region, citing growing insecurity as a key factor. Daura emphasized that elders in Katsina State approached him due to his expertise in national security matters, highlighting the escalating security issues in the state.

He added, "Even when I wanted to aspire to governorship, it wasn’t really, I would say, my own making. "Katsina State is going to be one of the epicentres of insecurity, and it has been growing by the day."
