Osibanjo: I needed no authority to shut down NASS gate – APM’s Lawal Daura

Former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura, stated that he does not have any regrets over his involvement in blocking the National Assembly gates during the late former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. Daura, who is now the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Movement, APM, made these remarks while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

The ex-DSS boss was questioned about whether Acting President Yemi Osibanjo was aware of his decision to close the National Assembly gates. Daura responded by asserting that he did not require any authorization from either the acting president or the president to take action he deemed necessary. He emphasized that his decision was akin to a police officer's responsibility to act when witnessing a crime in progress.

Daura provided an analogy, saying: "If a policeman sees a crime about to be committed in the street, is he supposed to go to a corner, call his commissioner of police or his DPO to say there's a crime, what do I do?" When asked if he had any regrets regarding his actions, Daura firmly stated that he never regretted his decision and would never do so.
