Tanzanian President Samia’s husband dies in hospital

Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan lost her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, after he passed away while receiving treatment for a heart condition at a hospital in Zanzibar. The Vice President, Deogratius Ndejembi, announced the news, stating that Ameir died at 08:00 local time on Monday at the Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital. Ndejembi expressed condolences to Samia, Ameir's family and friends, noting that Ameir was an agricultural academic who had largely maintained a private life.

Ameir, who became Tanzania's first First Gentleman following his wife's rise to power in 2021, was married to Samia since 1978 and they had four children together. The First Gentleman's daughter, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, is also a politician serving in Zanzibar's House of Representatives. International leaders, including Kenyan President William Ruto and Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema, expressed their condolences to the Tanzanian First Family during this difficult time.
