"Super-human' Alcaraz books US Open quarter-final clash with Shelton

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz returned from injury to defeat Tommy Paul in straight sets at the US Open, earning a quarter-final spot against Ben Shelton. Two-time women's champion Aryna Sabalenka also progressed, advancing to face Wimbledon winner Linda Noskova in the last eight. Alcaraz dominated, serving 33 winners in his 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Paul.

Paul, the 20th seed, caused Alcaraz the most trouble in the match, but the Spaniard controlled the rallies, breaking Paul's serve twice in the second set. Alcaraz praised his aggressive play, stating, "I tried to be ready for a battle and tried to be aggressive all the time." Shelton, who had struggled in his first three matches, showed a strong performance, winning his matchup against former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas in just 1 hour and 52 minutes.

Sabalenka advanced to face Noskova, who defeated Marta Kostyuk in a tough match. Frances Tiafoe claimed his quarter-final spot with a win over Daniil Medvedev, while Jessica Pegula secured her place in the last eight with a victory over Sorana Cirstea.
