Pune VIDEO: NCP MLA Shankar Mandekar Opposes Hinjawadi Merger With PCMC Despite CM Devendra Fadnavis' Backing

Pune MLA Shankar Mandekar has voiced opposition to the proposed merger of Hinjawadi, Maan and Marunji with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), despite Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' support for the merger. Speaking to the media, Mandekar emphasized that the villages should decide the matter, stating that the local residents do not want to merge with PCMC.

The MLA, known for controversial remarks, clarified that he would ensure the villages receive necessary civic amenities, but he does not support their inclusion in PCMC at present. Mandekar noted that the Chief Minister, while a state leader, had previously voiced his opinion on the matter, but the MLA had convinced him against the necessity of the merger.

The proposed merger of Hinjawadi, Maan and Marunji with PCMC has gained traction due to the rapid development in the area, which has strained infrastructure and services. However, Mandekar remains firm in his stance, suggesting that a separate municipal corporation could be an option in the future if the area requires a distinct civic administration.

The debate over the merger comes amid growing infrastructure issues in Hinjawadi, Maan and Marunji, prompting the state government to establish a special task force and allocate funding for infrastructure improvements.
