Mirra Andreeva helps injured opponent Anastasia Potapova before finishing her US Open victory

New York - Mirra Andreeva, the French Open champion, went above and beyond the call of duty during her fourth-round match against fellow Russian, Anastasia Potapova, at the U.S. Open. Late in the fourth set, Potapova fell and injured her knee, causing her to limp to her bench. Instead of focusing solely on her own game, Andreeva rushed to help her opponent.

She helped Potapova up, gave her treatment, and even helped her obtain ice. The two then shared a warm embrace at the net after the final point, with Potapova visibly emotional. Coach Conchita Martinez remarked that the incident demonstrated Potapova's gracious character. The match ended with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory for Andreeva, who advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time.
