The declaration of a nationwide emergency in Serian, Sarawak, announced three days ago, has now been terminated after the Air Pollution Index (IPU) readings no longer exceed hazardous levels. The Prime Minister's Office announced the termination, receiving approval from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, taking into account the advice from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the perspective of Sarawak's Premier, Abang Johari Openg.

However, air pollution remains a serious concern in Sarawak, particularly in Serian and Samarahan, where IPU readings continue to be extremely unhealthy. The federal and Sarawak governments will continue to closely monitor the situation and advise residents in affected areas to limit outdoor activities and always follow the guidance of authorities, they said in a statement. As of 9 a.m. today, only Samarahan recorded an extremely unhealthy air quality index of 230, while Serian reported an IPU of 195, an unhealthy reading.
