Ignacio Grangel se une a EY Abogados para liderar el área de derecho público y sectores regulados

Ignacio Grangel has joined EY Abogados to lead the public law and regulated sectors area, following his tenure as State counsel in excess. With a strong background in energy both in public administration and private sectors, Grangel brings a wealth of experience to his new role at EY Abogados, which is led by Adolfo Zunzunegui.

Licensed in law from the University of Zaragoza, Grangel became a member of the State Bar in 2004. He has practiced before virtually all judicial instances and in investment arbitrations, notably as State counsel before the National Auditory in regulated sectors such as energy and telecommunications, as well as administrative contracting.

Between 2012 and 2015, Grangel served as Director of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Energy, during which he contributed to the formulation of energy regulation. Following this, he held the position of Director of Legal Advice and Vice-General Secretary of Red Eléctrica, from 2015 to 2017.

Subsequently, Grangel acted as an independent consultant for Enagás, a member of the expert commission on the energy transition scenarios (established by the Council of Ministers in July 2017), and President of the Electricity Market Operator of the Iberian Peninsula. In 2019, he joined CMS Albián & Suárez de Lezo as a partner responsible for the public law and regulated sectors department, where he has advised on regulatory matters in the energy and telecommunications sectors, in defense before the Courts of Justice and arbitrations, and in M&A operations of energy assets for national and international clients.

Grangel's extensive experience in the energy sector, both in public and private domains, makes him a crucial addition to EY Abogados' energy team, as acknowledged by Marta Sánchez, a partner responsible for the energy sector, who emphasizes the enormous challenges facing the industry, whether structural, cyclical, or on a national, European, or global scale.
