Trump demands Bombardier quit US market unless it builds planes there

In a move that threatens to significantly impact Bombardier's revenue, U.S. President Donald Trump has called for the immediate cessation of Bombardier sales within the United States. Bombardier, a Canadian aircraft manufacturer, generates over half of its revenue from the U.S. market, making this demand a substantial blow for the company.

If Trump's demand were to be enforced, analysts estimate that Bombardier could lose roughly $5 billion in annual revenue. Trump's call for the ban came after Bombardier faced a setback when the company failed to receive Gulfstream Aerospace certification, a move that Trump blamed on Canada's interference. The dispute between the two countries has escalated further with Canada imposing counter-tariffs on $27.6 billion worth of U.S. goods, affecting over 700 American products.

This has put Canada under pressure to retaliate, which the White House warns they will not do. For Bombardier specifically, the financial implications of a U.S. sales ban are significant, with the company's Q2 2026 revenue rising by 6% year-over-year to $2.2 billion on 32 aircraft deliveries. However, the political climate is also unfavorable for the White House, with a recent poll showing that only 20% of Americans support higher tariffs on Canada, while 57% oppose them.
