Cameron Hanekom doing all he can to repay Bok coaches’ faith in him

Cameron Hanekom delivered a solid performance off the bench during South Africa's Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Test against the All Blacks at FNB Stadium in Soweto. However, despite his strong showing, the eighthman remains uncertain about his place in the Springbok team. Hanekom, who played his fifth Test for the Boks this year, had only previously appeared in one Test match against Wales back in 2024.

A hamstring injury sidelined him for the majority of the 2025/26 international season, despite his accolades as the URC Next-Gen Player of the Season.

The current season may be a transitional period for Hanekom, who acknowledges the competition for the starting No 8 position. With the likes of Stormers star Evan Roos and the return of injured Kwagga Smith, the challenge of breaking into the team remains substantial. Nonetheless, Hanekom maintains an optimistic outlook, understanding that his role is vital to the team's success.

Against Argentina in Buenos Aires, he also displayed his prowess, further highlighting his potential as a valuable asset to the team.
