Zverev reaches US Open fourth round with win over Tabilo

Alexander Zverev, the top seed, fought back from a sluggish second set to clinch a 6-2, 7-6 (7/2), 6-2 win over Alejandro Tabilo and advance to the fourth round of the US Open on Saturday. After a marathon nine hours and 26 minutes of play, spanning two five-set matches, Zverev was eager to avoid another long night on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The German, who claimed his first Grand Slam title at the French Open and finished as runner-up at Wimbledon, immediately broke Tabilo's serve twice to take the opening set with an unreturnable serve. Zverev took an early 4-2 lead in the second set, but his performance dipped, allowing the 28th-ranked Tabilo to score three consecutive games and briefly tie the match.

However, Tabilo couldn't capitalize on the momentum, and Zverev, after reprimanding an audience member who seemed to be coaching him during the subsequent tiebreak, reclaimed control of the match. Once Zverev led 5-2 in the third set, the outcome was sealed, and he advanced to the round of 16, where he will face 21st-seeded Italian Luciano Darderi.
