Zverev reaches US Open fourth round with win over Tabilo

Alexander Zverev, the top seed, edged past Alejandro Tabilo in a grueling five-set match to advance to the fourth round of the US Open on Saturday. The German lost his way in the second set but regained control to win 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. Zverev, who won his first Grand Slam title at the French Open and finished runner-up at Wimbledon, joked that his coach advised him not to play five sets when facing a best-of-five, a lesson he found helpful.

The 29-year-old, who spent almost 10 hours on court, admitted there is room for improvement but expressed satisfaction with his current level. Zverev broke Tabilo twice at the start and took the first set with an unreturnable serve. Despite Tabilo's rally in the second set, Zverev's level improved, and he strengthened his hold on the match after the third.

Tabilo, the 28th-ranked player, couldn't capitalize on his advantage and Zverev secured his place in the round of 16, facing 21st-seeded Italian Luciano Darderi next.
