Yusei Kikuchi pitches 6 scoreless innings to lead Angels to a 6-1 win over the Pirates

In a recent game, Yusei Kikuchi of the Los Angeles Angels showcased his pitching skills by allowing no runs over six innings, resulting in his first win of the season. Kikuchi, who had been out since late April due to left shoulder inflammation, returned to action on August 23. In his third start since returning, the 35-year-old two-time All-Star struck out six batters while allowing only five hits.

Kikuchi's performance marked his first win of the season, as he previously went 1-5 prior to this game. The Los Angeles Angels emerged victorious with a 6-1 scoreline against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Despite allowing three walks, Kikuchi showcased his control by only issuing three walks throughout the game.

Pittsburgh's starting pitcher, Braxton Ashcraft, struggled throughout the game, allowing three runs on seven hits despite striking out nine batters. The Pirates' offense was led by Moises Ballesteros, who drove in a run with a double in shallow left field. Josh Lowe also contributed a 410-foot homer, becoming the 11th player to hit a home run for the season.

The breakthrough hit for the Angels came in the fifth inning, when Denzer Guzman singled and moved to second on Adam Frazier's sacrifice bunt, eventually scoring on Zach Neto's triple. The Angels further solidified their lead in the sixth inning with two additional runs, thanks to Esmerlyn Valdez's walk and Bryan Reynolds' single.

However, the Pirates managed to score one run in the seventh inning, courtesy of a home run by Josh Reynolds. Reynolds' 421-foot shot over the right-field wall proved to be the Pirates' sole offensive contribution of the game.
