Ukraine’s Zelensky says war with Russia may continue through winter

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that the conflict with Russia may persist through the winter, highlighting the critical need for ongoing support from the United States and Europe. On Sunday, Zelensky described three rounds of negotiations held in Kyiv as objective and expressed his appreciation for the United States' continuous backing.

At a press conference following discussions with envoys of US President Donald Trump, Zelensky reiterated his stance that the territorial disputes between Ukraine and Russia can only be resolved through direct meetings between their respective leaders. The US and Russian officials reportedly viewed a three-hour meeting involving Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, and Russian President Vladimir Putin positively on Saturday.

The envoys plan to announce their next steps in the coming weeks. Zelensky also briefed the US envoys on Ukraine's preparations to sustain the war during winter, while Kushner and Witkoff emphasized their ambition to secure a breakthrough prior to the onset of winter. The meetings were complemented by additional discussions with Zelensky and his advisers, as well as national security advisers from the UK, France, and Germany.

Following the second meeting, Kushner and Witkoff expressed optimism about their talks and anticipated further progress.
