Saudi Arabia, Bahrain allow taxis to carry passengers across King Fahd Causeway

Taxis in Dubai can now transport passengers directly across the King Fahd Causeway between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. This new cross-border transport option began on September 6, allowing travelers more flexibility and improving the travel experience. Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority implemented the regulations in coordination with authorities in Bahrain to enhance land transport options and strengthen economic and tourism integration between the neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Only officially licensed taxis that meet technical, security, safety, and service-quality standards will operate across the causeway. These vehicles must be no older than five years. Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications stated the service provides a more safe and efficient means of travel while helping maintain smoother traffic flows.

Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Bahrain’s Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post, emphasized the service's support for smoother movement between the two kingdoms. King Fahd Causeway serves as Bahrain’s primary land link with Saudi Arabia, handling significant passenger, tourism, and business traffic. Nabeel Khalid Kanoo, Chairman of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed the move, noting that the easier cross-border transport would boost tourism, hospitality, retail, exhibitions, and business activity, further solidifying economic integration between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
