U.S. pushes to revive Ukraine–Russia talks after Witkoff and Kushner meet Zelensky in Kyiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Kyiv, as part of efforts to revive Ukraine-Russia negotiations. The talks centered on ending the war, providing support through the winter, and establishing security guarantees. France, Britain, and Germany also participated in the meetings.

Zelensky acknowledged that the conflict was likely to persist until winter and expressed hope for an agreement with U.S. partners and European allies. Witkoff and Kushner hoped to announce a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States in the near future. The envoys brought revised documents to Kyiv, reflecting changed circumstances, but reported few new ideas.

Control of the Donbas remained the central issue in the peace talks. Zelensky highlighted the importance of the Donbas issue in the broader context of the war.
