Trump envoys arrive in Kyiv for 1st Ukraine visit

U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for their inaugural visit to the Ukrainian capital, following discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow regarding the resolution of the conflict between the neighboring nations. President Donald Trump's business partner Witkoff and son-in-law Kushner had previously visited Moscow multiple times but had not engaged in talks during their capital city of Kyiv, which has been subjected to lethal Russian assaults since 2022.

They are scheduled to converse with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. An AFP correspondent on the ground in Kyiv witnessed the arrival of the American envoys via train. They anticipate engaging in talks to rekindle dialogues aimed at concluding Europe's most devastating conflict since World War II, following a period of mounting tension.

Moscow's invasion of Ukraine has resulted in hundreds of thousands of fatalities and the displacement of millions. Witkoff and Kushner convened with Putin on Saturday to advance President Trump's vision of peace in the Russia-Ukraine War, as stated by a White House official to AFP. The two parties deliberated on practical strategies for forthcoming actions, which will be disclosed in the days ahead, and express their anticipation for further progress.
