Tak perlu adakan PRU16 lebih awal, kata Loke

DAP's Deputy Chairman Loke Siew Fook stated that the Prime Minister should not bow to any pressure to dissolve Parliament, even though he has the majority support. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim currently holds the majority in Parliament, and the coalition government was formed after reaching consensus following the 2015 general election, with a five-year mandate.

With 15 months remaining in the current term, Loke emphasized that this period should be utilized for implementing reforms approved by the Cabinet. The DAP believes that as long as the Prime Minister has majority support, there is no need to comply with any pressure to dissolve Parliament. After the DAP's Women's Congress, Loke highlighted that the next 15 months will be dedicated to implementing all approved reforms, including constitutional amendments approved by the Cabinet, such as separating the roles of the Attorney-General and the Prosecutor General, and limiting the Prime Minister's term to two terms.

The previous day, Barisan Nasional Chairman Zahid Hamidi reportedly suggested that it would be better to hold PRU16 earlier rather than waiting for Parliament's term to end next year. However, Loke stated that the Pakatan Harapan coalition leadership is ready to continue serving the full five-year term if the Prime Minister chooses to do so.

Reports indicate that Anwar has also indicated that the proposal to hold PRU16 earlier could be considered, but the current government is focusing on the economy, public welfare, and fighting corruption.
