NSC warns terror threats against Israelis, Jews continue to rise ahead of High Holy Days

The National Security Council has issued a warning about ongoing terrorist threats against Israelis and Jews worldwide, particularly ahead of the 2026 High Holy Days. The updated assessment aims to increase awareness of the current risks and promote preventive measures, though it does not introduce new travel advisories. The council attributes this heightened threat to Israel's ongoing conflicts with Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas, as well as rising anti-Israel rhetoric and incitement.

The third anniversary of the October 7 massacre is identified as a particularly sensitive period, with potential for large-scale protests and violent attacks. Iran and its proxies are the primary global terrorist threat, pursuing operations through their networks, proxy groups, and criminal organizations. Meanwhile, Hamas is investing in establishing terrorist infrastructure in Europe and other countries to carry out revenge or high-profile attacks on Israelis and Jews.

The Houthis have also called for attacks on Israel and Israelis traveling to Somalia and other African nations.

Countries surrounding Iran are particularly vulnerable due to established networks and proximity to the Islamic Republic, with Azerbaijan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates highlighted as particularly dangerous. Jordan, Qatar, Somaliland, and Egypt, including the Sinai Peninsula, carry Level 4 travel warnings, advising Israelis to avoid these areas.

Israelis are also advised to avoid transit stops in Level 4 countries and refrain from displaying Jewish identifiers or speaking Hebrew in certain locations. The council urges heightened vigilance around sensitive sites like Chabad houses, kosher restaurants, and synagogues, as well as avoiding demonstrations and protests. Travelers should also keep emergency contact numbers handy.
