Mets to call up RHP Jonah Tong to start Monday and keep him in rotation for remainder of season

Jonah Tong will return to the New York Mets on Monday and the team plans to keep the right-handed pitcher in their rotation for the remainder of the season. Tong, 23, will make his debut in Miami against the Marlins. The Mets view Tong as their No. 5 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Tong's recent performance has impressed the Mets, with him posting a 3.60 ERA in three relief appearances for Triple-A Syracuse and a 4.54 ERA in the majors in 23 starts.

Tong's previous success includes a no-hitter on July 30 and coming within one out of a seven-inning no-hitter on August 29. The Mets' interim manager Andy Green expressed excitement about Tong's inclusion in the rotation and plans to keep him in the rotation for the rest of the season. Tong also had a brief stint as a reliever for the Mets in May and June, where he allowed seven walks in 10 innings and issued five earned runs in 21 1/3 innings.

He acknowledged that failure is inevitable in one's career and is eager to learn and grow from it. Meanwhile, reliever Jefry Yan was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse by the Mets on Sunday after posting a 5.68 ERA in 13 appearances. Yan was replaced in the roster by Tobias Myers, acquired from Milwaukee along with Freddy Peralta in January.
