Manitoba doctor denies working to revive Carberry ER in response to recruitment lawsuit

Dr. Klevis Iliriani, a Manitoba doctor who worked at the Carberry hospital from May to August 2024, has denied claims that he was working as a recruiter. An Ontario doctor alleged that Iliriani misled him about a position at the Carberry hospital, stating that recruiters misrepresented the job and breached the terms of his contract.

Iliriani, who currently resides in an Ottawa suburb, was accused of filing a claim against recruiters Dr. Dave Maharajh and Barry Banek for negligence and breach of contract. However, Maharajh has recently filed a statement of defence, denying any involvement in recruitment and requesting the court to dismiss the claim against him.

According to Iliriani's claim, Banek told him that Maharajh was working to revive the Carberry hospital's emergency room and passed along contact information. Iliriani claims he was promised a more central role, a more flexible schedule, and higher pay for travel expenses compared to his previous position in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba.

When he began working at the Carberry hospital, his duties were fundamentally different from what he had been promised, leading to his resignation. The lawsuit also names several other individuals and organizations as defendants, but they have yet to respond to the claim in court.
