Italian Grand Prix re-started after Leclerc crashes out

Monza, Italy witnessed a halted and subsequent restart of the Formula One Grand Prix after a severe crash by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. The incident occurred at the conclusion of the second lap on Sunday when Leclerc crashed heavily at Parabolica. Ferrari confirmed that Leclerc was unharmed following a visit to the Monza medical center. Following the crash, Leclerc managed to extricate himself from the vehicle and lay hunched on the grass behind the barriers.

The race resumed after a half-hour delay for the rebuilding of the tyre wall. Mercedes driver George Russell took the lead at the restart. Leclerc had commenced the race in third place, with teammate Lewis Hamilton in fourth. However, Hamilton attempted to pass Leclerc on the inside at the first corner. Leclerc was forced wide into the gravel, sliding to 11th place.

This incident was noted by the stewards. Subsequent to the restart, Leclerc, who was under pressure from McLaren's Oscar Piastri, experienced wheelspin, touched the white line at the track's edge, and skidded off at high speed during the end of the second lap. The safety car was deployed, followed by the red flags on lap four. The initial restart had to be discontinued when Racing Bull's stand-in driver Yuki Tsunoda was positioned incorrectly on the grid.
